UNION REGISTRATION.
IMPORTANT TEST CASE Wellington, March I L An important case arising out of the slaughtermen's strike is being lieaid in the Arbitration Court today. It r-i an appeal by tne Ngarauranga Slaughtermen's Industrial Union against the refusal ef the Registrar of Labour to grant the union registration under the Act. The old slaughtermen cancelled their regmtration. and then, as part of their plan ci campaign, appli- d for ,and were granted, re-registra-tion. Meanwhile the local works carried on with “free'’ labour, and at the Wellington Meat Export Company’s work at N'garuaranga it was decided to form a union. Registration was sought and refused by the registrar on the grounds that these men might conveniently belong to the Wellington Slaughtermen’s Union. The proceedings to-day are concerned with an important principle and are in the nature of a tent case.
