ENTERTAINMENTS.

“A WALTZ DREAM.”

The production of Strauss’ tuneful opera "A Waizt Dream ” drew a good house at the Napier Municipal Theatre on Saturday evening. Both the staging and costuming of the piece were good, ard the orchestra interpreted the Strauss music most effectively. The performance appeared to meet with much approval from the audience, who were frequently insistent in their demand for encores. The principal parts vote taken by Messrs. I). B. O’Connor and John Ralston, who impersonated Lieutenant Niki and Lieutenant Montsehi ■ .‘-per lively. Miss Eva Moore m.:il? a charming Franzi, the lady bandmaster, and the other parts in the ca.- t were successfully filled by other members of the company. RICKARDS’ TIVOLI COMPANY. Quite an array of high-class vaudeville artists is included in the Rickards’ Tivoli Company, which is to appear next Thursday for one night at the Princess Theatre, Hastings. In previous tours it has been the custom to send through one or perhaps two “ star ” features, but in the present instance all the artists have wide reputations in the world’s chief centres. To quote Mr. Hugh Mclntosh’s words to an interviewer prior to the company’s departure to New Zealand. “ The respective salaries paid De Biere and Nella Webb are well night double the amount paid the Prime Minister of Australia,” and go to prove the vast proportions the vaudeville business has assumed in recent years.” “ Refreshingly original and fascinating ” is the phrase applied to the demonstrations of De Biere by the Sydney “ Herald.” De Biere is described as being not only an illusionist, for his superb impersonations in the art cf substitution, tie • of any mechanical 'effects, make his predecessors, effoi-ts appear primitive. Miss Nella Webb, who seems to have carried hettriumphs to Auckland as elsewhere, wili he heard in a budget of her captivating songs, which have won her such fame in London recently. Other attractive rev, comers are Taylor ard Arnold, ragtime monologuists, Minnie Kaufmann (a niued trick <-.s -1 >.
