“RECEIVED.”

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, - At the last monthly meeting of the Town Board. 1 applied by let; ter iu a courteous manner for a testimonial. as “Inspector of Nuisances,” and the treatment meted cut to me was a letter from the, clerk saying that my application was simply “received.” Now, sir, there is a let underlying this, and I will shew to what extent some members will resort to gain tlieir ends. For the information of those individuals who evidently hate me, 1 have in my possession a number of letters during the years 1903 to 1907, from Dr. de Lisle, then District Health Officer for Hawke’.; Bay. ami his able assistant Mr. Munro, enough and more, to show, that I. carried out iny duties ii“ Inspector of Nuisances to the entire satisfaction of those gentlemen. I max' stale, sir, that atany time I reported to the board any serious nuisance or menace, to public health, the board never at any time upheld me in the least. 1 had always to appeal to Hr. de Lisle or Mr. Munro to help me in cariying cut the duties satisfactorily for the. benefit and health of' the public and district. For the future welfare and progress of the district it is to be hoped the “ Local Government Rill will pass this session, and entirely blot out autocratic methods m. local affairs. Thanking xou in anticipation. —1 am. etc.. T. W. MANLEY, Late Inspector of Nuisances. Taradale. July 15, 1912. i P.S.—I might state 1 have held the position of Inspector cf Nms-j anccs for a period of six .years.
