H.B. COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay County Council was held in Napier yesterday. Pre sent : Messrs. T. Mason Chambers (chairman), T. Clark, W. Shrinipton, H. A. Russell, G. A. MacDonald, L’. Gordon, G. P. Donnelly, T. Crosse, W. G. Stead. CH AI RM AN’S STA TEMEN T. The timber contracts at Puketitiri and Henley were renewed for twelve months. The Chairman and Cr. Stead were authorised to make arrangements with Mr. Holt concerning the Kereru timber contract. The question of drainage was discussed at length, and it was decided that the Council should take over the control of all the drains and not leave them to the River Board. The matter of building drains in the Meanee district was discussed, and it was decided to do the work by day work. The chairman’s action in granting the use of an old traction engine to the Hastings Borough Council was confirmed. The action of the chairman in ac cepting the tender of W. Tucker of 10 6 for the cleaning out of the T< Mata drain was confirmed. In answer to the letter from the council with reference to the position of the proposed railway embankment and bridge to connect the eastern and western spits and asking- itiai the survey of the line be deferred until all irtterested parties have ar: opportunity of meeting ar.<P discussing the subject, the Hon. R. McKenzie, Minister of Public Works, st.a, cd that the Engineer in-Chicf was instructed to interview the Naples Harbour Board as to which line should be adopted across the har Lour before, the work was commenced. Mr. Holmes, who is Enginee; for Harbour and Marine as well ar Engineer-in-G’hief for Public Works, will be consulted in reference to the matter. —It was decided that the let ted be recc ived and that Air. Clark should place the letter before tlu next conference.

Mr. C. R. Pollen, Commissionei of frown l ands, "wrote stating tha‘ in the absence of a proper survey o’ the Crown land on the Grange beacl the buildings erected by Messrs.
