About 250 yards of metal are required on Pettit's Valley road from the Onga end, and about 100 yards from Middleton’s corner past Freemantle’s. Ruataniwha Riding. —Have start ed on removal of sharp corners on Gorge road, bid the hardness of the ground makes progress slow. I am also taking out two culverts and pitting them in at points where there are nono.

Have had the Brown bridge shortened as instructed, and have nothing of importance to report in the other ridings. * The council decided that 250 yards of metal are to be put on Pettit’s Valley road and 100 yards near Middleton’s and a new culvert is to be put in on Stoke’s road.

GENERAL. An application is to be made to the Department for a £1 for £1 subsidy towards a proposed deviation at the "Look Out” on Stoke’s road. It is estimated that the deviation would reduce the mileage fromßlackburn special settlement to Onga Onga by 7 miles and the cost is estimated at £250.

Tenders are to lie called for painting the Wa:pawa traffic bridge, also for the supply of 1250 yards of metal on Rhodes rend near Spring Hill. The Land Board is to be asked to extend the Waipawa-Mate protective works to protect Mitchell’s property from erosion and also to prevent a drain that the council made through his property from blocking up.

It was decided to employ a permanent surface man for the Onga and Wakarara Ridings.

The overseer was instructed to collect the necessary data as to cost, etc., of erected additional pounds fcr the County, and Onga Onga was suggested as a central position. The overseer was authorised to proceed with the work nt the Wai-pawa-Mate bridge with the council’s own men.

A general discussion took place as to whether in the future to acloj-t ferro-concrete instead of wood "or bridges. The estimate cost of the near future requirements in v.ood was £15,000 and of this amount Government grants in aid to the amount of £5OOO have been authorised. It was held that although the cost of concrete would be 50 per cent mc-c it would be practicable to reduce the length of bridges ; furthermore, the life would be longer than the loan period. The matter -as held over until next meeting ar.d in the meantime the overseer was instructed to go into the matter, taking one bridge as a basis, and report to the next meeting.
