OVERDUE STEAMERS ARRIVE.

DELAY DUE TO ROUGH WEATHER. (I’Kll CHESS ASSOCIATION. 1 Auckland, Feb. 6. The ovirduc steamir Croydon arli’.ed from San Francisco this morning after 45 days’ passage. She rcpi rtid that Hie delay was caused by unfavourable weather. The Croydon escaped from Nukualofa, Tonga, during a hurricane which, according to the pilot who took the vessel out, had destroyed half the town and wrecked every launch in port. No ■ iii the r details of the damage were available. The Croy cion lost some loose hamper and a quantity of deck cargo. The steamer Ilorwclein, timber laden, which arrived this morning, encountered the hurricane in latitude 72 west. She had all her masts carried away, bulwarks smashed, two boats smashed, and three or four thousand feet of timber washed overboard. A PERILOUS NIGHT. Auckland. Feb. G.
