Two cases arising out of the death of a man named Klein at Port Awamii were heard at the latter place to-day before Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M.. when I*’. (!. Allen, licensee of the Sea View Hotel, near port Awanui. was charged with manslaughter in that lie supplied excessive quantities of liquor to Klein, who was under his cart' in a helpless condition. The magistrate considering the evidence insufficient this charge was dismissed, but for permitting drunkenness on his premises Allen was fined £l5 and had ‘ , tis licensed endorsed. An amusing incident is told by one of the Wellington Fire Brigade staff. In answer to a call from the outskirts of the city, the motor was tearing along when two men rushed frantically up waving their arms and shouting to it to stop. Thinking they knew where tile fire was, the motorman stopped, and one of the nightbirds asked, "Sat, mat. l , where's tl.e fire 1" What the motorman said is not recorded.
