At the enumeration made in April, 1911, the number of horses in New Zealand was found to have increased to Ai'l.6BB (including 404 mules and asses). The district of Auckland has by far the most horses. Canterbury and 44'cllingrton following, Otago taking fourth place. The figures for the various centres were: Auckland various centres were : —Auck’aml 115.216. Canterbury 7<i.no7. 44'ellington 60.532, Otago 45,362. and Southland 22,413. Auckland has 1245 entires ail ages, and Southland 201 ; and Auckland has 48,550 geldings over two years ; Southland 13,132, and Otago 18,591. Of mares over two years old. Auckland has 43,343. Otago 19.509. and Southland 14.C51.
