The trouble with the wharf labourers for the inter-State wharves concerned has been renewed. The First the men demanded the same rates for overtime and for working contracts as the deep sea men. This was refused and last month those working general cargo knocked off for tea at' 5 o’clock instead of at 5.30 as provided in the agreement. They turned up again <o start overtime work at 6 o’clock instead of at 6.30. The owners declared this to be a breach of the agreement and declined to allow them to start until 6.30. The men thereupon left the wharves. Other gangs coming on at 7 o’clock were not allowed to start. "Work is stepped at all the intcr-Statc wharves excepting the Union Company, where the men were allowed to start at 6 o’clock because is was absolutely- necessary to finish loading certain vessels. Soon after this the men refused dv.tv.

The head offices of the Inter-State shipping companies at Melbourne are informed that it is understood the Shipowners Federation will take a flrm stand and enforce the agreement. When the men present themselves this morning they will probably find the gates of the InterState wharves closed against them.
