DEATH FROM SEPTICAMIA.
Christchurch, Aug. 2. At the inquest at the Hospital this morning concerning the death of Lena Buchanan, aged 22, a married woman, the verdict returned was that death was due to septicamia, following child-birth. Medical evidence was to the effect that the case was an extremely bad one, but he doctors could not say where the infection came from. The nurse who attended the patient was unregistered, but she is positive she took all necessary precautions. It was suggested that as two people had died in the same building it might contain the disease germs. The Coroner remarked that an unregistered nurse ran a great risk undertaking such a case. One doctor in his evidence said there were hundreds of unregistered women practising as midwives in Christchurch.
