FLOOD IN AUCKLAND.

TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR TO-DAY.

Auckland, June 10.

A torrential downpour of rain this morning flooded Queen' Street. The water is flowing over the kerbs up to the building line. Many places, and many cellars are flooded, some as much a-s four feet deep. A good deal of damage has been done to goods below the street level in various shops. Nearly all the hotels and restaurants in the lower part of the city have suffered severely. ,

There are numerous instances of fires being extinguished and' cooks working knee-deep in water at various places, ’including half-a-dozen of the leading hotels, while preparing the'mid-day meal. The downpour lasted about an hour, and it was followed by a steady drizzle.
