A Melbourne message records the death of Mr. Max Maxwell, actor.
The many friends of Mr. T. Durney will regret to hear that he is suffering from a serious illness, and his condition is a source of great anxiety.
Mr. W. S. T. Tonkin, formerly of the “ Daily Telegraph ” and late of the “New Zealand Times,” was at yesterday’s meeting of the Napier Harbour Board appointed a shorthand clerk in the board’s office.
Mr. Samuel Turner, F.R.G.S., who is interested in toe dairy expert produce business, has arrived in Wellington from London by the Arawa. He will settle in New Zealand, and possibly do some Alpine climbing in the Southern Alps, similar to that he has done already in the Andes and on the vast mountai chains of Siberia. He claims to have made a world's skipping record on the voyage, 10,300 skips in an hour.
The resident surgeon, Dr. Ivan Wilson, who is retiring from his position at the Napier Hospital, was yesterday the recipient of several presentattors from the staff and the women patients of No. 3 ward. The nursing staff presented a gold-mounted leather pocketbook containing a card bearing the sentence. “ Wishing you every success and bon voyage.” Dr. H. F. Bernau. on behalf of the honorary medical staff, presented a jewelled travelling clock in a case. A goldmounted fountain pen was presented to the doctor by the women patients of No. 3 ward, and an address was read thanking him for his kind and attentive services.
