HAWKE’S BAY COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Chairman said that after hearing the case for and against the Council would consider the matter. Apparently. however. I they had readied an impasse. Mr. ; Tait and the other petitioners 1 wanted a certain area, and the! Wairoa County Council wanted • another. Seeing that there was no chance of coming nearer to an i agreement, it seemed that anything j done would be futile, and it was probable the only thing for Moha-! ka was to form a new County. He [ however tendered advice to the’ Chairman of the Wairoa County to! keep separate riding accounts. If this were done each riding would be as it were a separate county with the benefit of central administration ; then the Mohaka member would be able to ask for what he wanted. That would patch up the difference, and he could not help feeling that Mr. Shaw (clerk) was wrong in not keeping the accounts separata. The County now knew ■ the demands of both sides, and would discuss the issue. ; Mr. Crosse pointed out that the County was already too large, and referred to the fact that in all big counties where separate accounts were not kept there had been separation.

Mr. Shrimpton pointed out that unless there was unanimity the only remaining course was to proceed by Royal Commission. The Council then briefly discussed the matter, but came to no definite decision.
