Gisborne, 1.30 p.m. There were five steamers shelterin at Te Araroa yesterday—the Mokoia, the Squall, the Haupiri, | the Wanaka, and one of Richard-! won and Company’s boats. Thia morning the steamer Count- ■ eaa from Auckland also put in there. So violent was the wind at* Te Araroa yesterday that the newj blacksmith’s shop was blown down, and 30ft of verandah from the hotel ■ was torn off. The weather has cleared up in Gisborne Later. The gale along the coast is now moderating. The Mokoia, from t Auckland, which had sheltered at Te Araroa last night, arrived in the, bay at 10.45 and will be tendered lhas afternoon.
