STATE FURNITURE FACTORY URGED. Sydney, Feb. 11. The Conference negatived a motion that Labour members should contribute £lO annually to the funds of the Labour League in their electorate; also 2| per cent; of the moneys received as members of commissions. A motion was carried that the Government should establish a furniture factory for the manufacture of furniture required in the government offices, also to supply wage-! earners on the instalment plan ; i also a motion, affirming , the desirableness of abolishing capital pun-! ishment in favour of perpetual »m-j prisonment. The mover contended! that hanging was no deterrent from crime.

POST OFFICE HOURS. (Received 13, 9.35 a.m.) Melbourne, Feb. 13. The Postmaster-General says there will be no retrenchment of individuals through the earlier closing of Post Offices, which is intended as a concession.
