GREENMEADOWS AND TARADALE.
(From our ,Correspondent.) As a result of the heavy frost which was experienced in the early part of the season fruit ; is very scarce. Plums and prunes are only a quarter of what they were last year. Apples are poor. The vines are in Such a bad state that it is a question whether there will be any vintage at all. Out of the 35 acres of vines that there are in this district only five are giving any grapes. The Mission orchard did not suffer very much from the frost, and the yield of fruit there is much better than in other places. The work of shifting the Mission school from Meanee to the hills is now nearly completed. This is said to be one of the biggest jobs of its kind that has ever been undertaken in Hawke’s Bay. On account of the school being a twostoreyed building, the difficulty in the work of removal has been very much increased. At present only one more section has to be shifted. The settlers will not be sorry when this work is over, as the traction engines and trolleys have cut up the roads to a considerable extent.
The Greenmeadows Post Office has been shifted to the new building, and Mrs Hassal, as postmistress, has shown herself to be very obliging and well suited for her position. The private boxes are selling off well. The traction engine traffic on the Whare-rangi-Puketitiri road has been very heavy during the last few weeks. Six traction engines passed in one day.
