The Times of November 24, iu its-report of Mr Disraeli's visit to Glasgow, says : Yesterdny'(Sunday) afternoon Mr Disraeli attended Divine .service at Glasgow University Chapel. The Very Rev. Principal Cajrd officiated. The presence of Mi' Disraeli and the high reputation of the preacher attracted an tmuionse crowd of people. The Lord Rector, who wore his robes of office, aud who was accompanied by Mr Edward Gordon.'the member for the Universities of Glasgow and Aberdeen, occupied one of the seats reserved for the senators iu the north aisle ; the Professors, who also appeared in academic costume, and a uumbcr of the members of the University Council were also present. The service occupied nearly two hours, about half of the time being taken up with the sermon. The text was taken from the Bth aud 9ih verses of the 14ih chapter of John's Gospel. Vvhile Dr Caiid was delivering oue of his finest- passages, an amusing incident occurred. The weather was very dull, and about half-past 3 o'clock tie light in the chapel was very bad. The Principal at this time came to a sentence iu his sermon 'in which occurred the word, "Oh for light, more light," when the beadle turned on the • gas, and the builrliug was in an instant brilliantly illuminated. The preacher looked a little disconcerted, and the circumstance provoked a suppressed titter from the audience.
