Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1869. THE ENGLISH MAIL.
Yesterday afternoon saw the arrival of die English Mail at Napier by the s.s "Wellington. In another column we give such of the moist important items of news as our limited time allows us to place before our readers. The news is almost barren of interest to the Colony if we except an indignant protest made by a few public spirited friends of New Zealand against Earl Granvile's curt de-patch. The question of Imperial assistance, however, does not seem to have assumed any more hopeful aspect than before. The wool market appears to be a shade more favorable, and seems to promise improvement. Of English news proper, we note that the Irish Church disestablishment bill had been sent back to the Commons fiom the House of Lords with amendments; but that ultimately a compromise was effected, and* the bill was at length passed, and became law. Fuller details of the news to hand we must reserve for our next issue.
