Treacle. —Treacle has been made from the sugar-beet by IVIr Grayling of Manga* rei, Taranaki. From 100 lbs a little over lbs of treacle was obtained. Grain Import.— Official statistics recently issued show the total value of tha grain and dour imported into New Zealand during tiie year 1868 was £313,470,- Tho (out value of tho same articles exported during the same period was £122,26 5. Of this, however, only £119,129 was the produce of the Colony, thus making tho excess of imports over exports £194 311 or 173.18 per cent. Tee Late Earthquake.—The shock of earthquake which was felt in Napier and Wellington on tiie morning of the 4th inst. was also felt in Wanganui. The Times of the sth iust. thus refers to it; —“ A shuck, or rather u couple of shocks, of earthquake occurred here early yesterday morning, a little alter two o’clock. There was first a j >it, followed shortly after by a strong vibratory moiion, proceeding from southwest to north-east, and lasting abou halfa minute.” The shock is not mentioned in the Auckland papers as having been felt in that city.
