ARRIVAL OF THE “STORM BIRD DEFEAT OF THE FOX MINISTRY.

Times Office, Friday, morning Aug. 1. By the Storm Bird, Capt. Muiulle, which arrived at daylight this morning from Wellington, which Port she left on the evening of Wednesday, we have papers to the 30th ult. She brings the following passengers:— Messrs. M’Donald, Fannin, Guthrie, Brown, and Macow, and a large general cargo, amongst which we may mention a Fire Engine for Napier. The Jaochim Christian had arrived, after a passage of 147 days. The Fox Ministry were defeated in their first essay on the Native Question, after an animated and interesting debate, which was prolonged over two days’ sitting. The following members spoke on the question,— Messrs. Fox, Fitzgerald, Moorehouse, Colenso, O’Neill, Watt, Jollie, Weld, Gillies, Bell, Richardson, Atkinson, J, C. Richmond, Ward, Stafford, Featherston, Wilsofo, Carleton, Domett, Carter, Williamson, Fitzherbert, and Graham. On division the numbers were equal: and the Speaker gave his casting vote with the noes. The Ministry on the following day resigned office. It is reported that Mr Fitzgerald had succeeded in forming a ministry.
