FIRES.

LONDON, December 27. A large wool store at Buenos Ayres has been burned, resulting in heavy losses. Six persons supccted of incendiarism have been arrested. One Dannmirkc correspondent- telegraphs that a three-roomed cottage on a section leased by Mr J. M. Kulc was totally destroyed by fire on Monday afternoon. The members of the family were away attending a picnic, and on returning found only the chimney Standing. The cottage was insured for £75 in the Sun office, and the furniture for £35 in the same office. [BT TELEGRAPH— special to “herald.”] WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Massey Harris premises, a twostoyer building on Lambton-quay, was totally destroyed by fire to-night. A gala of wind from tlie South fanned the flames, and made a brilliant- conflagration. Notwithstanding tile cold driving rain, some thousands assembled to witness tlie scene. The Fire Brigade worked splendidly, notably six men who gained a position on top of n. verenda and stood their ground in the face of tierce beat, and in spite of falling timber and dense volumes of smoke. So bravely did they work that the crowd cheered them. Tile building destroyed was formerly the old St. George’s Ifall. wliich was for many years a leading place of amusement in the city, first at a theatre, and afterwards os a skating rink. Later on it was leased by Kirkcaldie and Stains, the well-known drapers, who had been lessees of it ever since. Part of the building has been used by them for tlie manufacture of bedding. Tlie front part of the ground floor was sub let to the Canada Cycle and Motor Company, who have carried on a bicycle business there for a considerable period. The court of St. George Grey, A.0.F., lost a valuable banner.
