A PARTY QUESTION.

[PBISS ASSOCIATION.} WELLINGTON, Wednesday, During a discussion with representatives of the Trades and Labour Councils' Conference to-night, The Premier asked for information regarding the resolution passed by the conference in favour of an independent Labour party being formed. The spokesmen of *fbc deputation said it had been thought that they could do more for tire cause of progress by forming ah independent party. The Government need have no fear of which side the party would be on. The Labour party had a platform, and wished to push it on. Mr Seddon said the attitude cf the deputation was satisfactory to him. What he feared, however, was that if there was any separation it might drive away from the Labour party those who had been working in harmony with it. He had been proud’fo be the head of the Labour party, but if in future he was to be head of the Liberal party only, then the responsibility for the change would rest with them. No doubt they would well weigh the position.
