ORMONDVILLE

Mrs C. R. Baines, of Papatua, left Ormondville on Saturday for Wellington, en route for the Old Country. A public meeting was held in the Ormondville Town Hall on Saturday evening, under the presidency of Mr M. J. Skinner, Chairman of the Town Board, when a circular was read from the Mayor of Timaru, asking co-opera-tion in forming a fund for a presentation from the colony to the battleship New Zealand. A strong committee was formed, and collectors were appointed to canvass the Ormondville riding for shilling subscriptions. The Chairman explained that if sufficient money was obtained it was proposed to find prizes for all time for gunnery on H.M.S. Now Zealand.
