PIGEON-FLYING.

The Hawke’s Bay Homing Pigeon Society’s open race from Eketahuna on Saturday was very successful. The weather was all that could be desired, with the exception of a strong hem! wind which prevented the birds from putting up record times. The birds homed well together, and the times are considered satisfactory. Following is the result: —Mr T. Cleary’s Lucy Glitters (time 2 hours 54min 35sec, velocity 1026 2-10 th yards per minute), 1; Mr H. Spence’s No. 81 (time 2 hours 55min 6sec, velocity 1021 7-10 th yards), 2; Mr G. Peterson’s No. 246 (time, 2 hours 66min ssec, velocity 1020 l-10th yards), 3; Mr J. C. Price’s No. 133 [time, 2 hours 55min 35sec, velocity 1018 4-10 th yards), 4. The winner receives a cash prize from the society. He also wins a handsome trophy presented by the society for securing the highest number of points in races held from Woodville, Pahiatua, and Eketahuna, points to count as follows; First 5, second 3, and third 2. The three placed members are Messrs T. Cleary 10 points, J. Eedshaw 8, and G. Peterson 6. The Derby Race on Saturday from Masterton will be the event of the season, and is likely to be well contested.

The race from Feilding for young birds held by the Napier Flying Club on Saturday resulted as follows:—Mr B. Elmes’ No. 91 (speed 995 6-10 th yards per minute), 1; Mr B. Elmes’ No. 96 (speed 989 1-XOth yards), 2; Mr G. Tail’s No. 61 (speed 982 2-lOlh yards)
