ORMONDYILLE

[own correspondent.] Mr 0. Ericksen presided at a meeting of the Xorseweed School Committee held on Friday evening. The master reported that the school opened on Monday with an attendance of 148, which afterwards rose to 150. He stated that the side school at Xgamoko was ready for use, with the exceptioS of the furniture, which had not arrived from the • Education Board. The Chairman stated that he had telegraphed for it to be sent at once. The Education Board wrote stating that the water tank would be forwarded as soon as possible, and intimated that Mr S. Kemp had been appointed pupil teacher, as the board had passed a resolution that all pupil teachers who had lost their positions through no fault of their own had to be considered first. The Chairman reported having had the school grounds tidied up and the fence repaired. Mr Thoresen was authorised to make arrangements for the cleaning of the Xgamoko side school, pending the appointment of new committee. Accounts amounting to £6 11s 8d were passed for payment. Messrs I’. G. Grant and Thoresen were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing month. A very enjoyable entertainment was given in the Waikopiro Institute, Whetukura, on Friday tor the benefit of the school. Mr Lucas, Chairman of the School Committee, presided, and there was a large attendance. A viollin solo was contributed by Miss E. Chadwick, songs by Misses Dumpily, E. Chadwick, and Messrs Christin, Cullen, Xewby and Kirkham, and recitations by Messrs E. Beddinglield and J. Hutt. Misses X. King and Chadwick played the accompaniments. A dance was held afterwards. Mr J. Adamson undertook the duties of M.C., the music being provided by Miss King and Messrs Yates (Dunedin), I’. Sugden, J. Castles, and J. Morrison.
