[own correspondent.] At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Messrs Johnson, Todd, and O’Connor, justices, George Dennison, alias Christian Dennison, was charged with smashing a window at Mr Craig’s hotel, Porangahau, on the 27th December. Detective Marsaek prosecuted. The defendant was also charged with stealing a ham of the value of 10s, the property of A. Drqwer. The latter charge was withdrawn by leave, and on the first he was ordered to pay damages £2, and a fine of £l, or in default to be imprisoned for two months in Napier gaol. John Wade was charged with using obscene language, and with resisting the police in the execution of their duty. On the first charge he was fined £2, or in default 14 days’ hard labour, and on the second £l, with 7s costs, or the same alternative, the sentences to be cumulative. During the hearing of the latier case, Mr O’Connor left the bench, as the defendant had been in his employ.
