WAIPAWA.

[own oobbespondent ] At the half-yearly meeting of the Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows on Saturday the following officers were elected for the ensning term: —Hro H, Hobm, G.M, j Bro. A. Petrovaki, W.G.; Bro. J. F. Carver, V,<J. i Bro. C. Xtioklebank, E.f-’. With many others I witnessed the inspection parade of the Waipawa Bides at the Oddfellows’ Hall on Tuesday night. The particular attraction was the fact that the corps were to appear in their fine new uniforms. Upwards of 40 men and all the officers were present, with Captain H. C. Collett in command Two principal ideas which occurred to me were the emart and soldierlike appearanoe of the men and the smallness of the hall for tho purposes of a drillshed, it being absolutely inadequate for the number of men present. Captain Collett put them through company drill, after which the sergeants took charge and exercised them at firing in sections. Then Captain Collett instructed the men in outpost duty. The corps wont through the work very evenly and creditably. A football matoh was plsyed yesterday afternoon between a Waipawa team and one comprised of Maoris. It was a very close game, and resulted in a win for Waipawa by 15 points to 11.
