DANNEVIRKE.
The first meeting of the Weber County Council was held on Saturday. Mr S, Franklin was unanimously elected chairman, Mr Franklin was for some time Chairman of the old Weber Bead Board.
The team to represent the Dannevirke Cricket Club in their championship match againet the Bush Hovers on Wednesday next will be selected from the following:—Hunter, Drummond (2), Down, Knight, Conpe, Brown, A. Bear, Guy, Loader, Crosse, Bobbie, and Barton.
At the Police Court on Saturday, before Messrs Hies and Maokay, Justices, 0 J. Tack, charged with using obscene language within hearing distance of a public road, was fined 20s and 7s costs. A prohibition order was granted against James Honeysett throughout the Waipawa Licensing District and Woodville borough. Dr. A. M. Sannders has commenced practice in Dannevirke.
A man named A. Melrose had his spine injured in a gravel pit on Saturday through a (all of earth. The sufferer was attended by Dr. Maoallam, and was sent to the Waipawa District Hospital. A native child was kicked by a horse at Tahoraite on Saturday morning and died shortly afterwards. At a meeting of bnshmen on Saturday night it was decided to form an Axemen’s Association (or Hawke’s Bay,— Own COKEESPONDBNT.
