THE IMPERIAL TROOPS

TEE LOCAL RECEPTION,

A notice appear! in onr advertising column! calling a meeting of the general committee in connection with the entertainment of the Imperial troops who visit Napier on Thursday next. The meeting will take place at the Council Chamber* to-day at 2.80 pm. for the purpose of considering the arrangements as drawn up by the executive committee. This committee sat nearly the whole of yesterday, and have now formulated a programme which should give general satisfaction, but we understand that the necessary funds are not yet in hand to carry it out, although we have no doubt that by the time the country lists are sent in, the funds will be sufficient to cover the expenses of entertaining onr visitors in such a manner that the district will have no cause to feel ashamed. At the same time anything in the shape d extravagance is being avoided. An effort is being made to get the t ailway JC apartment to extend excursion fares ove* Thursday and Friday, and we venture to predict that the town will be crowded, oven in excess of the occasion of onr contingent “ send off " twelve months ago. As there appears to he some doubt about the matter we may say that the troops will land at the Spit about 10 o’clock and will probably disembark from the breakwater. The executive committee having secured the necessary tarpaulins it has boon decided to build marquees on the Recreation Ground, where the luncheon will take place.
