LORD HOPETOUN'S POPULAKITY. Boooivofl Jnly 16, 9.30 a.m. London, July 15. Lord Hopetoun, who has been appointed Governor-General of the Australia Commonwealth, will arrive in Australia during the second week in December. Sydney, Monday. General satisfaction is expressed throughout the colonies at the appointment of Lord Hopetoun as GovernorGeneral of the Commonwealth. Captain "Wallingfcon will be appointed his private secretary while the Governor-General reBides in Melbourne during the sitting of the Federal Parliament, and it is expelted Lord Hopetoun will live in Sydney the remainder of his time until his official residence has been erected. Sir W. Lyne will shortly consult the Cabinet with a view to the rednotion of the State Governor's salary, whioh will probably be £6000. A few. local politicians hint at a fear that Lord Hopetoun's previous connection with Viofcorian affairs will influence him in favor oi that colony. Sir W. Lyne has expressed no opinion regarding the appointment, but Mr Eeid eulogises it.
