*> [FBOM OUB OBMONDVILLE COBREB--8 rONDENT.] '• June 15, 1900. A preliminary meeting was held oa . Tuesday evening at Makotuku to see if it was possible to get a road formed from * Matamau to Makotuku. Mr L. Wright 3 occupied the chair. It was deoided to write to Mr Matthews asking him if the ' land for thia purpose was procurable. Mr J. C. Davis was appointed seoretary. 7 A concert in aid of the sohool funds was held at Whetukura on Wednesday evening, and may be pronounced a great * success. Mr C. Hall, M.H.E., occupied * the chair. Every item was well received, ' in several cases encores being demanded. ' A dance was held afterwards, which was * well patronised. A meeting was called last evening at 1 Norsewood to form a committee in cmneetion with the peace demonstration, 1 but as sufficient supporters did not roll up ■ it was decided to postpone it until noxt Tuesday. 1 A mooting was held in the Ormondville 1 Town Hall laat evening to form a peace 1 demonstration committee, at which thore was a fair attendance. Mr M. J. Skinner was voted to tlie chair. It was decided to hold a local celebration. The following were elected a general committee, with power to add to it : — Messrs M. J. Skinner, Foxton, Forbes, TJnsworth, Shuker, Drake, Hosking, Mortensen, Nelson, O'Brien, A. Andrew, K. C. Groom, T. Gleeson, J. Barnes, Svensen, Gutteridge, Mudie, Job Packer, D. Barnes, D. M'Farlane, and Callender (honorary secretary), Blessrs Unsworth, Foston, D. Bl'Farlane, Shuker, Hosking, Drake, Forbes, and Skinner being appointed finance committee, with Mr Foston as treasurer. It was decided to meet at the school at 11 a.m., where a thanksgiving service will be held, then form into procession and parade the city, adjournment to hall for lunoh, the afternoon to be spent in games and sports, and fireworks, bonfires, Arc, in the evening. Eain, rain, rain, and nothing but rain is the order of the day, whioh has made the roads regular quagmires.
