OFFICIAL COMPILATION. [Telegram to Sydney Morning Herald.]] Melbourne, Juno 6. By the mail whioh arrived to-day there

is received an official statement of the ] grand total of casualties from all causes to the British forces in Sonth Africa to April 28th. It is made up as followB :— I Officers killed in action 218 < Officers died of wounds 53 i Officers died of disease 64 ( Non-commissioned officers and men 1 killed in action 2062 Non-commissioned officers and men _ died of wounds 492 , Non-commiasioned officers and men i died of disease 2028 , Non-commissioned officers and men I died of accidents 48 Total deaths 4965 Officers wounded 764 Non-commissioned officers and men wounded 9225 Total wounded 9989 Note.— The number of deaths from wounds has been deducted from the total of wounded. Officers missing and prisoners ... 171 Non-commissioned officers and men missing and prisoners 3925 Total missing and prisoners ... 4096 , Grand total 19,050 The above number ib the net total after ■ excluding those who have recovered, viz., r 10 officers and 48 men. One officer and i 41 men have died in captivity. 1 In addition 29 officers and 3101 men

have been sent home siok as distinct from * the wounded, which brings the aggregate • losses of the army to over 22,000, On the other hand, a further number of officers and men have returned to duty from the hospitals.
