Mr Sohreiner is reconstructing the CJab'inefc',' Messrs Merriman (Colonial Treasurer), Saner ■ (Commissioner for Pnblio Works), and Te Water (Minister without portfolio) have resigned owing to Mr JJohreiner's intention to appoint an' Imperial Commission to try the rebals, to r punish ...the ringleaders with imprison-i ment, and perpetual disf canohisement of the majority of the Afrikanders. . The Bond members insisted that the rebels be tried' in an ordinary Court and granted an amnesty at the end of the •war. The entire Opposition party in the Cape Parliament supports Mr Schreiner. Mr Rose-innes, Leader of the Opposition, in an interview, said that the coalition would defeat the ends of the Afrikander extremists. He thought that * the Bpecial tribunal suggested by Mr !' Sohreiner ought to have the fullest discretion to' decide cases of rebellion. The work would be simplified owing to thousands accepting tickets enabling them to retain their farms. The leaders ought to be severely punished, and the majority of the rebels temporarily disfranchised in order to avoid needlessly keeping open the sore.
