Later details of Thursday's fighting at Roodevaal, north of Kroonstad, show that after Colonel Douglas and 15 men were killed a large number were wounded, and the remainder of the Fourth Battalion of the Derbyshire Eegiment, numbering nearly 700, were captured. Two hundred and fifty Boera have surrendered at Ventersdorp (recently captured by Major-General Hunter), while Rustenburgand Potchefstroom are ready to Bubmit. One hundred and fifty British officers and 3SOO men, held as prisoners, were released at Pretoria.
