DINNER.
In the evening tho Loyal Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows gave a dinner to the district officers and delegates attending the district meeting. About 50 sat down to an excellent repast, provided by Mr J. Watts. The chair was taken by Bro. W. J. Standley, N.G„ who was supported on the right by the D.P.G.M., Bro. M'lntyre, and Bro. Fielder, C.S., and on the left by P.P.G.M.'s Broß. Cooper and Krogh. Letters of apology from Captain Bussell and the Hon. W. C. Smith were read. After dinner the usual loyal toast was given, and then Bro. Cooper proposed "The Manchester Unity." Bro. M. Collett responded. Bro. A. Hood proposed " The Hawke's Bay District," which was responded to by Bro. Fielder, who expatiated on the advantages of the Order, and quoted statistics in proof of his argument. All the lodges in the district were financial. The funds pf New Zealand lodges averaged _Sl9 4s 6d per member. He admitted tjjero was great improvement in the way lodge returns were now sent in, and particularly by the socretary of the lodge (Bro. : Jull) whom he regretted was absent. ■ Bro, Krogh proposed '' The npwly installed : officers," and in doing so paid a cojnpli- • ment to the past ana present occupants of the chair. Bro. M'lntyre responded. I'he other toasts were " Visiting delegates md visiting members," by Bro. Collett, ; replied to by Bro. Motley. Bro. Cooper '■ jttve " Tlie Abbotsford Lodge," and the jhairman responded. Mr King gave * ' The town and trade of Waipawa," and ( Mr James Williams replied. Songs were j iontributed by Messrs H. Collett, Fielder, * Krogh, Downer, Faram, Elford, W. 1 \itow, Standley, Carver, Somors, and J Abrahams, and reoitations by Mr Whit;ington. Mr King gave a pianoforte lelection, and accompanied the singers . cry efficiently.
