ANNIVERSARY DAY IN WELLINGTON.

(jBY ■EELJiKHJAPH.] Wellington, Monday. There was splendid weather for the anniversary. Rain fell during the night and laid the dust, and the day was fine, not too hot, with a light br^ez^. A great number of people went to Plijnmerton and other seaside resorts. The principal festivities besides the 1 race meeting were the swimming 9ports and yacht races. In the 100 yds swimming championship of New Zealand seven competed, and ifc was won by Edwards of Chrietchurch by a head from Truscott of Christchuroh the present champion, Stokes of Christchurch third, two feet away. Others were close up. The time, 69 4-oth sec, is a record for the colony. There were only two entries in the senior yacht race, the Maritana and Waitangi. The breeze was too light at the start, and the Maritana gave up. In the handicap race the same, two entered, but the Maritana had a walk over. In the junior races there were good entries. ...-.■
