BUSH NEWS.

[from our ormondville correspondent.]

January 19, 1899. The Danevirke -lawn Tennis and Bowling Club's grounds presented a very animated appearance yesterday afternoon, there being upwards of 70 ladies and gentlemen present. A number of scratch games were got off, being contested in the keenest possible manner, I and the interest taken in the events showed how popular 'these two pastimes have become. The " rep " bowling team, Messrs Henderson (skip), M'Phee, Random, and Crowley, met a picked team, captained by Mr. Guy, and consisting as well of Messrs Rasmussen, Chick, and Gordon, and were defeated by Bto 28. A tournament game (fourth round) was got off between Messrs W. Henderson and Newenbam, the latter being beaten by 19 to 16 in 21 heads. The final round of the bowling championship will be played off shortly between Messrs Henderson fend Paul. In tennis two tournament games were played. In the ladies' doubles (50 up) Mrs Henderson and Misß Guy (scratch) met Mrs Cowper and Miss Richards (owe 10), 50—42. In the gents' doubles (75 up) Messrs Blakiston and Ransom (rec 10) beat Messrs Parker and Prior (rec 25), 75—61. The outing was most enjoyable, the play good, and afternoon tea, provided by Mesdames Wratt and Nicholls, much appreciated.

The Norsewood cricketers were beaten by the Waipukurau team by four wickets and 46 runs. Tuke, for Waipukurau, put up 27 after a lifo on the first ball in the second innings, Dr. Godfray piled on 19, and Druce (not out) got together 27. A. Englebretson and T. Thorkelsen (10 each), and A. C. Collins were the highest scorers for Norsewood. At the drawing of stumps the scores stood Waipukurau 141, and Norsewood 95.

Trouble is reported to be brewing m connection with long-standing Ormondville Town Board matters.

The secretary of the Makotuku Sports Club has been instructed not to pay out the first prize for the mile) recently won by W. May, in 4min 38 l-sth sec, till further notice.
