Herald Office, Thursday evening.
Messrs Nelson Bros., Ltd,, Tomoana, received this afternoon the following cablegram from the Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, London: — Frozen Meat Market. — Best Canterbury mutton 3Jd, South Dunedin and Southland 3Jd, best Napier and North Island 3Jd.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated 117 th instant;— Wool.— The sales opened at an average advance of about' 5 per cent on last sale's closing rates.. The opening catalogue contained 7000 bales, but was not a representative one. Competition by both home and foreign buyers is active and the attendance is good. The total quantity available, including wool held over from last series, is 264,000 bale?, 80,000 bales of which have been forwarded to the manufacturing districts direct. Tallow.— The market is strong. Tallow has advanced 6d per cwfc since last report.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office : — Wool sales opened with large attendance of buyers. Competition animated. Fair selection. Nearly everybody is buying and Americans are buying on a small scale. For the bulb of merino wools prices are on the average 5 to 10 per cent higher than closing rates of last series. Fine crossbreds and lustre wools are 5 per cent higher. Other descriptions are 25d to 5 per cent higher. Messrs Murray, Eoberts and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London House, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., dated 17th instant:— The wool sales opened with a large attendance of buyers. . Competition is good, and the market advanced 5 per cent.
