Nubar Pasha, the Egyptian statesman, was born in Smyrna i2i 1825, and was educated in Switzerland and France. lie was secretary to Mehemot Mi, and to Ibrahim Pasha, aud under Ismail was jNliuister of Public Works, in 1815-1, and Ministur of Foreign Affairs in 18G7. He was created I'aslia by tho Sultan, and in 1807 obtained for Ismail, from the Porto, the title of Khedive. Ifo held various odices under Ismail and his successor Tewfik, but was suddenly dismissed in 1888, and replaced by Riaz Pasha.
