BOWLING.

— - — -♦ THE WANGANXJI TOURNAMENT. NAPIER BTILL AHEAD. PROBABILITY OF THE NAPIER CLUB WINNING. [from our special correspondent.] [bt trleoraph.] Wanoanvi, Friday. An early start was made with the bowling tournament this morning, some of the matches commencing at 8 o'clock, and play continuing till about half-past 7 to-night. Tne weather was again most favorable for bowling. A peculiar feature of to-day's play was that the three leading clubs (Napier, Wanganui, and Feilding) were defeated in their firat matches by Wellington, Auckland, and Remuera. The Napier Club, however, maintained its position, having won two matches oub of three, defeating Waverley and Carterton, but Evans's men were badly defeated by the Wellington quartette (L. Blundell, Hentiplay, N. M'Lean, and Ballinger). In addition t6 winning two games today the Napier xeam got a bye from the Blenheim men, who forfeited their match in consequence of some of the team having to return to Blenheim. This, of course, counts as another win for Napier, which makes twelve matches to its credit and only three losses. It is generally expected now that the Napier men will secure either first or second place in the tournament, and there is very little doubt that if they continue to-morrow the steady and consistent play they have shown for the last four days they will carry off the senior position. They practically are ties with New Plymouth at present, but this includes a bye which they have to play off -with Nelson to-morrow. Without the bye from Nelson, both Napier and New Plymouth have won 12 matches and lost three. The Bluff Hill team won three matches to-day from Feilding, Hawera, and Thorndon, but they were out-classed by Newtown. This gives Bluff Hill a total at present of 10 matohes and five losses. The Hastings men to-day defeated Hawera, Feilding, and Victoria, but they uete beaten by Newtown. Danevirke defeated Gisborne and Wanganui, and were put down by Nelson. The Wanganui team, which last night occupied a leading position, is now regarded as practically out of the tournament, having lost three matches to-day. Feilding also lost two. The tournament will continue till late on Saturday, and may probably extend till Monday, especially if any ties have to be played off. A telegram was received to-day from Mr Frank Moeller, president of the Napier Club, congratulating the Napier team on their success in the tournament. The following are the additional results :— Third Round. Auckland a bye. Blenheim 11 and Wellington 13. Wanganui 11 and Newmarket 17. Napier 17 and Waverley 6. Nelson 13 and Danevirke 12.
