BOWLING.

THE TOURNAMENT. NAPIER LEADING. [prom our special correspondent.] [by telegraph.] Wanganui, Thursday. The weather for the third day of the bowling tournament was again exceedingly Bne, the heat of the sun being tempered by a cloudy sky. To-day being the weekly half -holiday there was a large attendance on the green in the afternoon, iintl the visitors were, as usual, treated with the utmost hospitality by the local bowlers and their lady friends. The defeat of the Wanganui team by Palmerston, and of the Wellington men by Auckland, Thorndon, and Newtown, lent additional interest to the day's play, inasmuch aa it affected the aggregates very considerably. The Napier men won all their matches to-day, defeating Newmarket, Danevirke, and New Plymouth, the latter by 17 points to 8. This places Napier in the proud position of being ahead in the | tournament after three days' play, Evans's team having won nine matches, lost two, and scored a bye. Wanganui and New Plymouth are close up -with nine wins and three losses each; Feilding comes next with eight wins, two losses, and a bye. Bluff Hill has won seven matches and lost four, whilst Wellington has won seven and lost five. The Bluff Hill team, skipped by Laing, were also very successful to-day, having beaten Gisborne, Danevirke, and Victoria (Wellington), and lost their match to Hastings. The Hastings men lost two matches to Newmarket and Danevirke, but defeated Bluff Hill by 15 to 12. This game was uncommonly close, and at the tenth head the score was 10 all. The other Hawke's Bay team (Danevirke) won their match against Hastings, but were beaten by New Plymouth, Napier, and Bluff Hill.
