She reports leaving Sydney on the' morning of the 4th insfc., and arrived at Auckland 6.30 a.m. of the 9th inst;, having had moderate winds and fine weather throughout. Left Auckland on * Tuesday afternoon, called- at' Gisborne next day, and arrived here as above. Yesterday she landed 70 tons cargo, and then loaded up a quantity .of pelts and ' sundries, and left for Wellington at 2.30 p.m. ■ ' . The Te Kapu returned from Wairoa on -Wednesday night, discharged a foil load of wool yesterday morning, and left at no on for Wairoa. -She is due back this morning, and will probably leave again for Wairoa to-night. The s.s. Hesketh arrives from Greymouth, to-morrow morning with a full cargo of coal for Messrs Prebble' and the Bad way Department. The ■ a.s. Ahnriri .was due back from Waimarama last night with a load of wool, and will leave for Mohaka this evening. ■ The Union Company's s.s. Waihora is due this forenoon from Wellington, and ■mill leave the breakwater this evening for Gisborne, Auckland, and Sydney. The Mararoa now holds the record for the fastest passage from Sydney to Hobart. A few' days, ago she covered the distance (628 mile?) in 41 hours. Messrs Harland and Wolff have launohed at Belfast a cargo steamer for the White Star. She is ,to be called the Afric. The vessel is 550 feet long, 63 feet broad, and 44 feet deep, her gross register is 12,000 tons. The Afric is somewhat smaller than the Cymric, which is largest cargo steamer afloat. An addition to the fleet of the Mes- - sageries Maritimes was made on November 6 by the launch at La Oiotat of an 18---knot twin-screw steamer named the Annam — a sister ship to the Tonkin, Indus, and Ernest Simons. .Her displacement is 8400 tons, and she will be put in the direct service to Cochin China and Japan.
