[BT TELEGRAPH.] Inveboarqi&l, Tuesday. The Southland Metropolitan sho opened to-day. The weather was oppre 16 sively hot, and thunderstorms with ben floial rain had occurred in the bac 11 country during the afternoon, One < n " these broke over Gore, and literal] '• enveloped Invercargill, giving a couple < hours grand rain. Only cattle and shee ad are being judged. There was not a larg to attendance. The principal awards wei te us follows :— Mr E. Grieve showed chan in pion shorthorn bull, and Mr A. Beave ie champion cowj the Ayrshire ohampioi >y ships both went to Mr James Gait n- Messrs R. and A. Officer took both chan; pionships for Polled Angus ; the JPiv Rivers Estate had the best of the fa , n beasts shown. In Lincoln sheep Mr J. I j 8 Sutton took all the awards; Borde Leicester champion ram Mr J. M'Crostie re Border Leicester ewe, Messrs M'Keroba ,y Brothers ; Eomney Marsh ohampion raw Mr J. B. Logan j Romney Marsh ew« Hon. W. Holmes j the Shropshire award all went to Messrs G. Eeid and Sons ■ v Cheviot champion ram and ewe, Messr '• Kealder and Awdry; the Hon. W P Holmes was the only exhibitor in oross ■ r breds. >r
