'' ' I The TJnion Company's s.s. Dingadee left "Wellington at 1 p.m. yesterday, and is due hero this forenoon. She brings 360 tons Greymouth coal, and is to leave to-morrow for Westporfc. The s,s. Kairn discharged her cargo at the breastwork yesterday, and at 5 p.m. left for Wellington and coast stations, Yesterday the Te Kapu discharged hercargo of wool, and was to leave again for Wairoa last midnight. The Union Company's a.s. Te Anau is due here this morning from Southern ports. She brings back the cargo carried on by the Flora on Sunday, and is advertised to leave the breakwater at 5 p.m. for Gisborne and Auckland. • It is generally understood that Captain Bone's appointment as maritime superintendent to the New Zealand Shipping Company in New Zealand, is the result of the not infrequent damage to meat cargoes of late, and it will be hia principal duty to see to the proper Btowage of all frozen meat, with the hope of discovering whether it is in that ■ department of the process that the meat suffers. He will travel from port to port to superintend generally the loading of the company's steamers, in the same manner as does Captain East for the Tyaer Company. Other reasons given for the appointment are the retirement of Captain Eoae and the ill-health of the company's representative at Dunedin. Captain Bone is extremely popular throughout N»w Zealand, and his new duties will make him a decided acquisition to the shipping magnates of the colony.
