The Union Company's a.s. Te Anau is due here this morning from Southern ports. She brings back the cargo carried on by the Flora on Sunday, and is advertised to leave the breakwater at 5 p.m. for Gisborne and Auckland. • It is generally understood that Captain Bone's appointment as maritime superintendent to the New Zealand Shipping Company in New Zealand, is the result of the not infrequent damage to meat cargoes of late, and it will be hia principal duty to see to the proper Btowage of all frozen meat, with the hope of discovering whether it is in that ■ department of the process that the meat suffers. He will travel from port to port to superintend generally the loading of the company's steamers, in the same manner as does Captain East for the Tyaer Company. Other reasons given for the appointment are the retirement of Captain Eoae and the ill-health of the company's representative at Dunedin. Captain Bone is extremely popular throughout N»w Zealand, and his new duties will make him a decided acquisition to the shipping magnates of the colony.
