(ReoeWed September 6, 9.30 a.m.) Adelaide, Friday. The Chamber of Commerce has leaned a leDgtby reply to the Treasurer's advocary of the State Advances Bill. It states that the Chamber, representing the commercial interest of the colony, is unanimous iv declaring that the bill la based on wrong principles. Its practical operation will constitute a menaoe to the financial stability of tbe community. Never In tbe history of the colony haa money ruled at cheaper rates, and while recognising the relief that cheap money gives, the bill is so devoid of sound economic principles that it is deluding to tbe prodncer and prejudicial to vieoronH national life. In Canada the Government advances had to be abandoned because they complicated the State finances and for men ted jealousy and discontent. In New Zealand the scheme contained more safeguard*, bnt was already prodnclng trouble, as a relaxation of the conditions prescribed by the Act and essential ts safety, is demanded and haa virtually been promised.
