NEW SOUTH WALES.

BYDNEY, Thursday. A subsidence of 20 feet occurred near the seat of the fire at Broken Hill. If tbe fire can be limited to the upper levels, and there U no subsidence of the timbers in tbe lower levels than 200 feet, the damage will be minimised, as it was intended to cease work in this portion of the mine. Seventy thousand gallons of water per hoar have been pnmped into the mine. The work of pnttiDg in blasts to shake down the ground to smother the fire is attended with great danger, especially in the nelgborhood of an overlapping wall, as settlement Is constantly going on. About midday yesterday the overhanging ollffof a foot-wall gave way, and the men engaged there had to abandon their tools and harry for their lives. Within an hoar a yawning chasm separated the detached rook from tbe solid ground. Tbe pumping of gas is proceeding. This last resource the directors were reluctant to nse, as It will take some time to rid the mice of gas.
