Persistent reports are current that Sir A. D. Haytur, M.P., succeeds to the Governorship of New South Wales, though the Government hesitate to contest the Walsall seat now represented by Hayter.
Major general Tullooh, formerly Commandanb 'of Viotorls, at the Merchant TailorB 1 dinner said Btate Soolaliem, resulting from the payment of members, and professional politicians, were among the chief causes of financial trouble in Victoria. He stated that Socialism was only maintained by borrowed money or ruinous: taxation. Political reform, he declared, was absolutely necessary to relieve the colony.
