This company was nob well patronised last nigbt. We will prophecy. To-night there will be a full house in the Theatre Royal, For this reason, that Napier playgoers never let a deserving company pass through without giving them their dve — o, good reception. The programme submitted by the Gonrlay- Stokes Company laat night we must criticise as clever in the extreme. Mr William and Miss Amy Gonrlay are of a verity hosts in themselves. In fact the audience last night could nob have enough of them. Encores were frequent and free, indeed the latter on one occasion had to respond for the third time to recalls for coster ditties. Both have extremely nice voices, both dance cleverly, act Bplendldly, and throw suoh life and vivacity into their impersonations a» to cause their "catch on " lmmedlatoly. Mr Morton Prior too is a fair all - round man, and fills np the gaps in a way highly to be commended. In Mr Axel Newton the company have a pianist of great merit. "The Rehearsal," described qe a mnsical comical melange, gives scope for a great many songs, dances, and comical sketches generally, inclndicg some of the latest and best soDgs from the London music halls — we mean those catchy and smart, without vulgarity . '• Ten Minnies in a Chemist's Shop " is one of the most comical little sketches we have ever seen, depicting in dumb show the awtnl experiences of a young and distinctly unheautiful patient In cbe hands of a pretty jnvenile amateur female doctor.
