DRIVING WITHOUT LIGHTS. Sir,- I think that the judgment of the S.M. in Gordon v. Northe will give general satisfaction for Beveral reasons. Id awards substantial damages to a coast able who ia deservedly respected, and who has been maimed owing to tbe porslmooy or carelessness of a man who drove . wlthoaD side-lights; and it vindicates that constable's character from the false and cowardly aspersion osst npon it by the defendant. Bat that judgment baa a wider scope, It will, it Uto be hoped, do something to protect tbe travelling public agahab men who constantly drive traps , and carts at night without) lights), ami j generally on tbe wrong side oi the road. The oasa or Gordon v. Nortbe may perhaps convince these gentry that it is cheaper to invest in lights for tbeir traps (? tnac-trap?) than te defy the law and run over their fellow-creatures. There is already a bye-law here requiting drivers of vehicles to drive on the left hand side of the toad, and I - believe that the Council has passed — or will pass— a bye-law re- ? airing all vehicles to carry aiJo-lighls. t is not sufficient, however, merely to pass these laws.
