SYDHEY, Thursday. Mr Grayson, the representative of Messrs Huddart, Parker and Company, has been in communication with Mr Hnddart. who is absent in England, relative to New Zealand participating in the Vancouver mail service. Mr Grayson has been authorised to commence negotiations in the matter, and will proceed to Hobart towards the end of the month to meet tbe Postmaster-General of New Zea. land. He says that .when the complete eervfee Is established through to London deviation to New Zealand will mean ft
loos of several days. Consequently, If New Zealand wishes the steamers to call 5 at Auckland It will be necessary to grant a substantial subsidy, especially as a third steamer will be required. Mr Greyeon points out that Mr Huddart's offer to connect the main line with Fiji by steamer to Auckland for a subsidy of £10,000 would meet the mail requirements, as correspondence wou'd be delivered by such means as soon as in New South Wales. The terms on which the company propose to agree for a main service to call at Auckland have not leaked onr.
